CT Metering

Current-transformer (CT) metering is required when a site's load is too large for whole-current (direct-connected) meters. Sydney Power Group (SPG) designs and installs CT metering across Greater Sydney as a Level 2 ASP for commercial, industrial and large multi-tenancy supplies.

CT metering uses current transformers to measure high currents safely and accurately. As a network and metering task, it legally requires an Accredited Service Provider and full compliance with AS/NZS 3000 and the Service & Installation Rules of NSW.

Whole-Current vs CT-Connected

Whole-current meters connect directly to the supply and suit typical homes and small businesses. Once demand exceeds the direct-metering threshold, CT-connected metering is required, using current transformers to scale the measured current down to safe levels for the meter.
