Storm Damaged Switchboard

Heavy rain, wind-driven water and roof leaks can get inside a switchboard and turn it into a serious hazard. A storm-damaged switchboard may look intact but hide wet busbars, corroded terminals and compromised insulation. Sydney Power Group (SPG) responds 24/7 across Greater Sydney to make it safe.

If water is entering the board, or you see sparks, smoke or hear crackling, don't touch it — isolate power at the main switch only if it's safe and dry to do so, then call us. As a Level 2 ASP, we can make safe, repair, or replace a storm-hit switchboard.

Water Inside the Board Is Dangerous

Moisture in a switchboard bridges connections that should never touch, causing arcing, tracking and shock risk. Even after a storm passes, a damp board can remain live and hazardous. Keep hands dry, keep clear, and don't open the cover.

Assess, Make Safe, Reinstate

On arrival we confirm isolation, then assess how far the water has travelled through the board, the consumer mains and the metering position. Light ingress may allow a dry-out and component replacement; heavy saturation usually means a full switchboard upgrade is the safe path.

We only re-energise once the installation tests clean to AS/NZS 3000. Where the storm also damaged the supply, we coordinate with Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy or Essential Energy.
