Whole-home flickering, brightening and dimming, or lights that surge when an appliance kicks in can signal a loose or failing connection — a genuine fire risk. As a Level 2 ASP, we can trace it right back to the supply.

When Flickering Is a Warning

A single flickering light usually means a loose globe or a worn fitting. But if lights across multiple rooms flicker together, dim when a big appliance starts, or vary in brightness, the cause is likely a loose connection at the switchboard, a failing consumer mains, or a neutral fault — and these can overheat.

A neutral fault in particular can cause voltage to swing and damage appliances, so it shouldn't be ignored. It's closely related to the diagnostics behind partial power loss.

Tracing a Whole-Home Flicker

We inspect the switchboard for loose terminals and heat damage, then test the consumer mains and neutral connections back toward the supply. A high-resistance or loose neutral is a common and serious culprit that our Level 2 accreditation lets us pursue all the way to the connection point.

Where the neutral fault sits on the network side, we coordinate with Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy or Essential Energy to have it corrected.
