Split System Installation

A split system has an indoor unit and an outdoor unit connected by refrigerant pipework. It can be a practical choice for heating and cooling one room or a defined area. Plan capacity and placement before installation

A split system should be selected for the room's heating and cooling load, not just a rough square-metre rule. Sun exposure, insulation, ceiling height, windows and how open the room is to other areas can all change the required capacity. A site visit also helps find a suitable indoor-unit position and a safe, accessible location for the outdoor unit.

Installation and commissioning

The installation scope includes mounting the indoor and outdoor units, routing and connecting pipework and condensate drainage, completing the electrical connection, and checking operation in heating and cooling modes. Refrigerant-related work is undertaken under the required licences. The final location and installation method depend on the property and the manufacturer's instructions.

When a split system needs service or repair

Reduced airflow, unusual sounds, water leaking indoors, persistent odours or a system that no longer heats or cools as expected are reasons to arrange an assessment. Note any display code and whether the issue affects heating, cooling or both. Turn the system off if you notice burning smells, visible damage or repeated electrical trips.
