Multi Split Installation

A multi-split system connects several indoor units to one outdoor unit. It can provide independent room control without placing a separate outdoor unit for every room, but the design must account for the rooms used together, pipe routes, outdoor-unit capacity and manufacturer limits.

Design around rooms and operating patterns

List the rooms you want to condition and when they are occupied. Indoor-unit capacities and the combination of units that can operate together depend on the selected outdoor unit. A design should also consider pipe lengths, available wall space, condensate drainage and outdoor-unit airflow and access.

The electrical supply is checked against the manufacturer's requirements and the property's existing capacity. If a new circuit or other work is needed, see AC power circuits and switchboard upgrades.

Installation, service and fault-finding

The work includes installing the selected indoor units and outdoor unit, connecting the system within the manufacturer's limits, completing required electrical work and commissioning the system. Refrigerant work is completed under the required licences.

If one room is not reaching temperature, note whether other heads are operating normally and whether any controller shows an error. This information helps focus the service assessment. Do not open the equipment or attempt refrigerant work yourself.
