Choosing a Level 2 ASP Electrician: Questions to Ask Before You Hire

Network-side electrical work isn't a category where it pays to shop purely on price. Getting it wrong can mean an incomplete connection application, a defect notice re-issued because the fix wasn't compliant, or a job that stalls because the contractor isn't accredited for your network zone.

Accreditation Questions

Are they currently accredited with your specific network operator — Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy, or Essential Energy — not just "Level 2 licensed" in general terms? Accreditation is zone-specific and needs active renewal, so ask for confirmation rather than assuming.

Insurance and Compliance

Confirm public liability coverage (look for at least $10–20M for larger jobs) and workers compensation cover for any technicians on site. For any job involving a defect notice, confirm they'll lodge the compliance certificate directly with the network operator rather than leaving that step to you.

Quoting and Communication

A proper Level 2 quote should be itemised and fixed after a site assessment, not a phone estimate with a "could go higher" caveat. Ask whether they handle the full scope — network application, physical work, and compliance lodgement — or whether you'll need to coordinate separate trades for parts of the job.

Sydney Power Group is accredited across all three NSW network zones and handles every stage of a job in-house, from the initial contact through to final compliance sign-off.
